About Us

We are Iowa City Robotics — formed to support the FRC team 167 and other area teams not directly associated with a school. Team 167 is the oldest high school robotics team in the state of Iowa. Made up of students from multiple nearby schools and mentors from the STEM industry, our team develops engineering, business, and teamwork skills by participating in the FIRST® Robotics Competition. In this competition, we design, build, and program a 125-pound robot in roughly six weeks to compete against other teams from all over the country.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, our team works to encourage STEM careers for our members. In addition, we do outreach in the Iowa City community to foster STEM learning. This includes visiting elementary schools, running booths at community events, and holding summer camps for younger students.

Without generous sponsorship from local businesses, our team could not survive. Kirkwood Community College provides workspace for us at the Kirkwood Regional Center in Coralville. In addition, several local companies support our team by donating money, time, or products.
